Master Painters History


Master Painters is the national representative body for the painting industry and is now over 100 Years old, with many affiliated regions serving their communities for in excess of 120 years.

Today Master Painters New Zealand has grown to have 13 member regions throughout the country.

Master Painters is represented on the New Zealand Paintercraft Trust, AUSAE, Standards New Zealand and the BCITO. Master Painters also works closely with Inland Revenue Department, the Labour Inspectorate, Site Safe and Work Safe NZ.

These ties enable us to maintain an open line of communication on behalf of our members, and improve industry standards for all.

Master Painters are constantly working hard to build the value and recognition of the Master Painters logo and the image of the organisation so that consumers can have complete confidence and trust in member companies that are associated to them.

 No. You don’t have to be trade certified to be a member of Master Painters.

 We work and adhere to the AS/NZS 2311 2017 Standard for painting. We are also involved in periodically reviewing this document to maintain its relevance.

 We partner with Rothbury Insurance and rely on them to provide appropriate advice for painting business insurance. Rothbury Insurance are the only insurance company who will cover scratched glass for painters.

 You must have been in business for at least 18 months.
 You must provide 3 recent jobs to be reviewed by our field team.
 You must sign and adhere to our Code of Conduct.

Most regions hold regular meetings and events. These get-togethers can be informal or more structured (including AGMs). The more structured events are more informative and often include guest speakers.

We also hold an annual conference where we recognise excellence but, also have business advice sessions, a trade expo with the latest innovations from the major manufacturers, and fun events and networking opportunities.
